So, here are the photos of the 'actual' tunnels. However, they have most certainly been widened and reinforced (maybe with concrete? some brick?) and lighted for tourists. I highly doubt I could have crawled through the originals.
The thing that looks like an anthill was actually an airhole, with a long hole for air drilled down up to 30 feet.
